Focus
This unit is designed with the intent of creating a laboratory of movement experiences. Through basic instruction in modern dance technique, students will experience the concepts of motion, syncopation, time, and effort, as well as engage in discussions within a safe, supportive, and functional environment.
Goals and Objectives
Gaining a basic understanding of modern technique and vocabulary. Also learning about syncopation and use of uncommon tempos. Throughout the unit, students will learn and perform combinations in 5 ad 7 meters with the correct technique and movement qualities.
Standard
Students will understand the use of different rhythms and meters within combinations.

Lesson 1: 13 minutes of body warm up, 10 minutes of foot warm up, 10 minutes of across the floor leg swings, 17 minutes of large locomotor phrase
Lesson 2: 15 minutes of body warm up, 15 minutes of large locomotor phrase
Lesson 3: 6 minutes of body warm up, 17 minutes of foot warm up, 5 minutes of across the floor leg swings, 22 minutes of large locomotor phrase
Lesson 4: 15 minutes of body warm up, 15 minutes of foot warm up, 5 minutes of across the floor leg swings, 15 minutes of large locomotor phrase
Lesson 5: 15 minutes of body warm up, 15 minutes of large locomotor phrase
Lesson 6/ Final Assessment: 6 minutes of body warm up, 12 minutes of foot warm up, 5 minutes of across the floor leg swings, 27 minutes of large locomotor phrase
